Sparrows Week 5

Posted on October 6th, 2017 by Sparrow Class

Well done Sierra! You are the Star of Week 5 in Sparrow Class.

You have shown kindness every day this week and is always aware of other children’s feelings.

On Tuesday we will be taking part in a Sports Event at Holywell Primary School. A letter has been sent home and the permission slip must be returned on Monday. If your child was absent and has not received the letter, please ring the school to confirm his/her permission for Tuesday’s event.

In Art and D&T Lessons we have been designing and building a model of our dream school. It looks like Mrs Pace needs to give us a swimming pool as it was the most wanted feature for all Sparrows.

In English we had many fun and sensory lessons this week: squishing mud, describing objects from a “feely bag” and learning many new verbs and adjectives to write beautiful poems.

On Wednesday we had a fantastic time in the garden. Thank you to all volunteers who make our garden so special and productive. All children had fun, got their hands dirty and were able to take some vegetables home.

We have been working hard in Maths to measure objects using beads, cubes, rulers and metre sticks. We have also explored lines of symmetry and made beautiful butterfly patterns.

On Friday an envelope containing “tricky words” went home alongside a message on how this new system will work.

It is important for children to practice these high-frequency words as they are explicitly listed in the national curriculum and will be tested in SATs and Phonics Screening assessments.

Please display the words and encourage your child to read them often and they will get new ones to practice. We can make this fun just by placing the words in different parts of the house.

  • Please bring your PE kit back on Monday ready for our lesson in the afternoon
  • Please bring in your home learning books
  • Please bring your water bottles
  • Please bring in your book bags
  • Please bring your Sports Trip permission slip on Monday the latest.

Have a relaxing and fun-filled weekend,

Mrs Webb
