Our Topic

Posted on October 3rd, 2017 by Robin Class

Our Topic has changed. I was inspired by the children as they were playing with money so today we each went to Mrs Filan and purchased our snack. Upon finishing our snack we voted on what shop we wanted in our role play.

  • Potion shop
  • Fruit and Veg Shop
  • Farm Shop
  • Charity Shop
  • Toy Shop
  • Sweet Shop

The overwhelming majority voted for a Sweet Shop! So with this in mind if you have any empty packaging to do with sweets please can we have them. Of course our shop will still be selling our tasty fruit snack, such as pears and apples because they are sweet too!

Many thanks

Mr Libberton

  • Children need to come to school in their PE kits with a coloured top of their house colour (the colour they sit in at lunch) on Friday. If they do not have a top in that colour their teacher will give them a coloured sticker.

  • Please come and watch Sports Afternoon from 1:30pm. We will be having a parent and teacher race at the end of the results.

  • The children will return to their classrooms at the end of the day and you will collect them from the playground as normal.

Robin: End Of Day Routine

Posted on September 26th, 2017 by Robin Class

We will now be shutting the gate and only opening the gate for one child at a time. Mrs Filan will be at the gate Monday-Wednesday and Friday. Miss Gorton or Mrs Shaw will be at the gate on a Thursday. The class teacher will then be inside with the rest of the class allowing the children to go one at a time. This process may be slower for some parents however. It is incredibly important for us to get the children safely to their parents and carers with happy, smiley faces.

With this in mind, please could you work together with us to remind the children of the importance of staying within the gate both at the start and end of the day. A further note, if you require to talk to a member of staff please wait until  the end when all the children have been paired up with their parents/carers.

Robin Reaing

Book Bags to go home this week. Apologies for yesterday, these book-bags have now gone home.

In Reception we to encourage children to recognise initial letter sounds (phonemes) we send home alphabet books before reading books. This is for the children to associate an initial sound (phoneme) with a picture; eg a for apple, b for ball etc. The children do not need to sound out the words just get used to them. We will also be including a picture based book for the children to tell the story. This is called Lilac Level

Lilac level books are wordless books that tell a story through pictures alone. They help children to develop speaking and listening skills through creating and telling stories. Your child is just beginning to discover the excitement of books.Although these books have no words, they are an important introduction to reading. Please encourage your child to:
Look at the pages in order, and talk about what is happening on the left hand page before the right hand page.
Talk about what is happening on each page, rather than just talking about what they see in each picture.
Tell you who or what the book is about.

Robin Class Autumn Week 2

Posted on September 9th, 2017 by Robin Class

This will be our first full week together as a class and we are all looking forward to it, even if we may be a bit tired by the end of the week!

This week we will start our whole class sessions learning about the rules and routines in the classroom.

Phonics: s a t p grapheme/phonemes. Introduction to sounds.

Literacy: Starting to learn our story ‘The Little Red Hen’. We will be learning about story maps and how picutres help us to remember parts of the story.

Maths: This week is all about counting − chanting numbers in order up to 10 and then 20, counting items into a set, counting items taken from a larger set, matching a number of items to a numeral, matching written and spoken numerals and being able to count accurately using one-to-one correspondence.

Growth Mindset: Deema the Duck- Don’t Give Up

One sunny morning, Deema the duck was happily swimming along the river where she lived. The
river was flowing very fast and her legs had to paddle very quickly under the water so she didn’t get
washed down the river! That morning, some children went with their teacher down to throw some
bread to feed the ducks. All the other ducks were swimming nearer to the edge than Deema, and
quickly gobbled up most of the bread before swimming away. Deema could see the children
throwing bread but the river was too fast for her to swim over. She tried to swim over three times,
but each time she nearly got washed underneath the water! After that, she saw a rock nearby. She
used all her energy to swim to the rock, then jumped over the fast flowing water to where the
children were, and because they had seen how Deema hadn’t given up they threw her some extra
bread!

Topic/Child Initiated Learning: Rules and routines, sharing, tidying away.

PE: skills circuits

Robin Class News

Posted on July 3rd, 2017 by Robin Class

This week the new reception children will be visiting us for a short time. The idea of this visit is for the children and their parents to see the classroom environment together on a informal basis. I will be there with our current Robin class continuing making observations etc. We also have Oxhey Early Years visiting us on Thursday so the classroom will be very busy!

Today we had our forest school session and the children worked together to make bug hotels. I loved the home learning our the bug hotels that you did with Miss Budwig, they are a joy to have in the classroom.

Mrs Whittingham will be in class on Wednesday morning.

We start our new topic about our teddy bears picnic and the children already have lots of ideas as to what they want to do for their party. We will be making graphs, understanding money and sorting groups for our picnic in our maths lessons.

We are being visited by the library tomorrow talking about the summer reading challenge that will be taking place. More information will follow.

We have a very busy 3 weeks ahead and I look forward to all the exciting activities that we have planned.
