Kingfisher News w/c 16th October

It’s been a very busy Half Term and I hope you and the children have a great Half Term break. 

In English we are studying poetry including the poem, Wings by Pie Corbett, The Magic Box by Kit Wright and See Me Walking by Clive Webster. 

In Maths we will be ordering and comparing numbers up to and above 100. We will be introducing the symbols < and >. 

In phonics we are looking at common exception words door, floor, again, wild, children, climb, parents, most, only, both 

We will be finishing our science topic on Animals and Humans and ending our topic on Mexico.

Kingfisher Plea for Construction

Hello, if you are intending to make space for Santa to drop off toys before Christmas Kingfisher Class would be very grateful for any unwanted construction (Lego , Knex etc) We have a small box at the minute and even though they are very good at sharing the children would like some more.

Kingfisher News w/c 9th October

In English we are continuing to write letters focusing on the books from last week. 

In Maths we are learning about place value and regrouping 2-digit numbers.

In this week’s phonics we are looking at spelling the phoneme /j/ with ‘g’ and ‘j’ eg gem, giant, magic, energy, giraffe, jacket, jar, jog, adjust and join.

This Week in Kingfisher Class

We have been reading the book John Patrick Norman McHennessy. Today we wrote letters to the author, John Burnigham giving him some new ideas for excuses! We have also been looking at shading in art and computing

Kingfisher Week 2nd October

We are starting a new unit in English based on writing letters and postcards using the book John Patrick Norman McHennessy by John Burningham and Dear Teacher by Amy Husband. 

In Maths we are focusing on addition and subtraction. 

In phonics we are looking at spelling the phone,e /j/ with ‘-dge’ and ‘ge’ at the end of words: badge, edge, bridge, village, fudge, age, huge, change, charge and dodge. 

In Jigsaw we are talking about Other people’s feelings

Lara’s mum is coming in on Thursday to talk about Mexico!

Sports Afternoon 2017

Just a reminder:

  • Please bring cakes in Thursday or Friday for our Peace Hospice cake sale.

  • Children need to come to school in their PE kits with a coloured top of their house colour (the colour they sit in at lunch) on Friday. If they do not have a top in that colour their teacher will give them a coloured sticker.

  • Please come and watch Sports Afternoon from 1:30pm. We will be having a parent and teacher race at the end of the results.

  • The children will return to their classrooms at the end of the day and you will collect them from the playground as normal.

Kingfisher Weekly News w/c 25th

In Maths we are focusing on coin value and finding change from various amounts. In English we are starting to write our own fables. In phonics we are looking at spelling the phoneme /s/ with ‘ce’, ‘ci’ and ‘cy’, for example race, ice, cell, city, fancy, face, bicycle, spicy, circle and space. In science we will be learning how to take care of pets in the home.  

We are collecting Harvest items for Friday and the Book Fair is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sports Day is Friday (House Colours went home with Meet the Teacher packs) Pease donate cakes for our refreshment stall (all proceeds to the Peace Hospice)

Kingfisher Week Commencing 18th September

In English we will be focusing on description and re-writing the Ant and the Grasshopper fable in our own words.

In Maths we will revise pairs to 10 and 20, and write related addition and subtraction facts. We will add and subtract 10 to any two digit number.

In Phonics we are revising the sounds /r/ spelt ‘wr’ at the
beginning of words eg write written wrote wrong wrap wrist
wreck wrestle wriggle wren

Book Bags, Homework and Library books are due in.

Tuesday

Reading Morning starts. I am on a course in the morning, Mrs Doonan and Mrs Bridgman will be teaching. Book Bags will go home.
