Kestrel Home Learning W1

Posted on April 19th, 2017 by Kestrel Class

Welcome back!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and enjoyed the sunshine and mountains of chocolate! We have another busy term with lots of new things to be learning about.

The home learning for this week is:

Spellings- Please learn the spellings and put these words into a sentence. Please review the words that the children have already learnt as we do revisit these in our spelling checks.

Maths (consolidation) – Please complete the mystery number puzzle by reading the clues and writing the numbers in words in the cross word.

History(new learning)- This term we are going to be learning about The Romans. I would like the children to think about what they already know about The Romans and then what they would like to find out about the topic.  Please fill in the KWL grid.

Reminders

  • Please make sure the children have a water bottle in school every day. This is especially important with the weather getting hotter.
  • PE kits should be in school for every Wednesday.
  • This half term we will be visiting the garden every Wednesday afternoon.
  • The PTFA AGM is taking place on Thursday at 7pm.
  • Film Night is after school on Friday.
  • From next week the children will be allowed to play football at lunchtime. Year 3’s day is Monday and one child from our class will be asked to bring in a football.

Have a good week!

Kestrel Home Learning W2

Posted on April 26th, 2017 by Kestrel Class

We have had a busy 1st full week back. Miss Bird has been teaching our Maths this week and we have been learning all about coasts in lots of Geography lessons!

The home learning for this week is:

Spellings- Please learn the spellings for your group and put these words into a sentence. Please review the words that the children have already learnt as we do revisit these in our spelling checks each week.

English(consolidation):  In English we have been learning how to be reading detectives which includes looking closely at pictures for details. Can you spot the 10 differences in the pictures from one of our favourite pages in our class book Ottoline and the Yellow Cat?

Maths(consolidation): Complete the column subtraction sheet. Choose the challenge that you think will support your learning! If you fancy a challenge, can you prove that your answers are correct on the back of the sheet? What methods could you use?

Geography– We have been learning all about coasts, what a coastline looks like, why it looks that way and have identified different coastal features caused by erosion. Talk about your own personal experiences of the coast. Do you have any pictures at the seaside? What can you see in them? Do you know anyone affected by coastal erosion?

Reminders:

  • Clubs have started this week.
  • There is no school on Monday due to the bank holiday.
  • Please make sure the children have a water bottle in school every day. This is especially important with the weather getting hotter.
  • Year 3 football on Monday at lunchtime.
  • Kestrel Class can take part in Multi Sports at lunch on a Tuesday. Enjoy learning some new sports and games!
  • Wednesday is our garden time.

Have a good week!

Easter Home Learning

Posted on March 29th, 2017 by Kestrel Class

I can’t believe we have come to the end of Spring Term already!

It has been a busy and learning filled 11 weeks! The children have been fantastic and are showing great improvement across their lessons.

The home learning for Easter is:

Spellings- Please learn the spellings and put these words into a sentence. Please review the words that the children have already learnt as we do revisit these in our spelling checks.

Maths- Consolidation of previous learning: Miss Bird would like the class to collect their own data and then present this data by using either a bar chart or a pictogram. If they children wanted to do both this is also fine. The children may also write some sentences about their data.

Reading- Please keep reading over the holiday.

Reminders:

  • School Disco on Thursday evening (4:30-6pm)
  • Awards Assembly Friday at 9am. If your child has been given our end of term award please come along to the assembly.
  • School ends at 1:30pm on Friday.
  • Please make sure the children have a water bottle in school every day.

I hope you all have a fantastic Easter break- don’t eat too much chocolate!

KS2 Choir

Posted on March 24th, 2017 by Kestrel Class

New school choir – sign up now!

The choir will be open to all KS2 children with no auditions needed. Rehearsals will take place at school on Thursdays from 3.15 to 4.00pm with Mrs Williams and Miss Langley Higgs.

The choir will provide a valuable opportunity for the children to develop their vocal technique and build confidence in their abilities, gaining knowledge of music theory and performance skills and, most of all, to enjoy singing together.

Please sign up now on the School Gateway!

Can you help with the choir?

We are looking for a volunteer piano/keyboard accompanist for occasional rehearsals and termly concerts.

We would also like to hear from any parents who want to help with the choir in other ways, whether by supporting children’s engagement during rehearsals, contributing ideas or helping to organise concerts – no musical experience necessary.

If you are interested in any of these roles, or you know someone else who might be, please contact Miss Langley Higgs.
